The Place Of Skill Or Expertise

Seest thou a man diligent in his business? he shall stand before kings; he shall not stand before mean men. Prov. 22:29

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: To be skilful is to end as a leader. Continue...

It is a well known fact that how you work today determines where you stand tomorrow. Now, what does it mean to be skilful or to possess expertise? It means to be a master in your art. Whatever your art or trade in life is, be a master in it. Being an expert in your field is a demand for authority and dominion.

Note the following: Firstly, expertise is the door to excellence. You cannot be an expert and not excel. Secondly, skill is the key to stardom. You cannot be skilful and be buried in obscurity because skill is the doorway to stardom. Thirdly, talent or potential is a gift from God but skill or expertise is the effort of man. You can’t give yourself a talent. That is why there are so many people with great potentials who ended as great disasters.

One of the reasons for aborted potentials is that many didn’t give their potential what it takes to see the light of day. David was a man in Scripture who was lifted to a great height through the availability of skill. 1 Samuel 16:18 says, ‘Then answered one of the servants and said behold, I have seen the son of Jesse the Bethlehemite that is cunning in playing and a mighty valiant man…’ He was an expert player. It was skill that took David to the palace. Also, Bezaleel was taken up in the construction of the Tabernacle by skill. Another man who was promoted by virtue of his skill was a man named Chenaniah in 1 Chronicles 15:22. He was a skilful instructor in songs and the Bible refers to him as ‘chief of the Levites.’ To be skillful therefore is to end as a chief. To be skilful is to end as a leader. Also in the book of Daniel 1:4, the Bible made it clear that skill was one of the things that positioned Daniel at the top. I believe your skill will position you for exploits, favour and authority in your generation, in Jesus’ Name.

ASSIGNMENT(S):
1. Refuse to live for nothing.
2. Sharpen your skills in order to have an edge in your area of life.

PRAYER: Lord, I receive grace and strength to sharpen the talents and gifts You have given me, in Jesus’ Name.
