For thus saith the LORD, That after seventy years be
accomplished at Babylon
I will visit you, and perform my good word toward you, in causing you to return
to this place. Jer.
29:10
THOUGHT
FOR THE DAY: The Word of God is calculated to generate good
in the lives of God’s people....
Our anchor Scripture makes it clear that the Word of God is designed for
the good of God’s people. It says, ‘After 70 (seventy) years, I will
perform My good Word.’ The Word of God therefore is calculated to
generate good in the lives of the people of God. In Isaiah 39:8,
the Bible says, ‘Then said Hezekiah to Isaiah, Good is the word of the
Lord which thou hast spoken.’ The target of the Word, whether it is
the Word you study by yourself or the one you listen to in Church, is to arrest
evil and establish good. Every time you go to Church, don’t go for a religious
‘sermonisation.’ No! The Word is called the good Word of the Lord, so it is
calculated for your good. It is therefore your duty to ensure your maximum
profit from the good Word of the Lord.
Why then do many people remain in Church for many years and never experience the goodness of the Word?
John
6:63 says, ‘It is the spirit that quickeneth; the flesh profiteth
nothing: the words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. 2
Cor. 3:5-6 also says, ‘…the letter killeth, but the spirit giveth
life.’
This is because every Word of God carries both the Spirit and the letter;
behind the letter (what you read) is the Spirit which causes change to happen.
When you read the Bible and encounter the Spirit behind the letter, it is
called revelation. Reading the Bible is like knocking on the door of a person’s
house. Getting revelation is like the person who is inside the door coming out
to say, ‘Hello, you are welcome.’ Reading the letter without contacting the
Spirit cannot profit you. The Spirit of God is God Himself, ‘for in the
beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God’ (John
1:1). So, God is behind the letters of the Word and it is only when we
encounter Him that we encounter the goodness of the Word. Many however lack
this personal encounter hence their inability to benefit from the ‘good’ of the
Word. I pray you will have that encounter with the Spirit of God today as you
study His Word in Jesus’ Name.
ASSIGNMENT (S):
1. Always pray and ask God to speak to you before studying the Word of God.
2. Always come to Church expecting to hear from God.
PRAYER: The
Word of God is targeted for my good. In the Name of Jesus, I shall benefit from
the Word, in Jesus’ Name.
