Profiting From God’s Word

Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. – Isaiah 48:17. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: It is not the Word you read or listen to that changes you but the Word that enters your spirit.

According to the Oxford advanced learner's dictionary of current English, profit can be defined as the advantage you get from doing something. It is the benefit, value, gain derived from doing something.
From our anchor Scripture, it is apparent to see that the Word of God is pregnant with profits. There is profit (gain, benefit or value) in accessing the Word of God. In other words, the Word of God is calculated for the profit of His people. The Bible is not just a religious creed for memorization or recitation, but a guide to practical actions designed for evidential profits. Your contact with the Word, therefore, is contact with profits.
But why is it that the Word does not produce profits in the lives of many? Psalm 119:130 gives us the answer, ‘The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.’ This means that it is not the reading, memorization, or the hearing of the Word that gives light (insight and profit). This is because it is possible for someone to hear the Word with one ear and it goes out through the other. What therefore, gives light is the entrance of the Word into the spirit. It is not the Word you read or listen to that changes you, but the Word that enters your spirit.
Now, the smell of alcohol alone cannot make a man drunk. One needs to drink alcohol in order to be drunk. It is the entrance of alcohol that makes a person drunk. And the Bible refers to the Word of God as the new wine. In the same manner, the mere smell of food cannot satisfy hunger. Food must be taken for hunger to be satisfied. This is why the Word of God must first enter your spirit before you can access the reality of its profits.
You see, you don’t access profits from the Word of God by just reading and memorizing it. The Word must not just remain in your mind or brain, but sink into your spirit for it to profit you. That is why many of us have Scriptures we can quote without maximizing the desired profits. Beloved, it is the entrance of the Word into your spirit that gives light. Therefore, let the Word of God enter your spirit and change your life.
