Hindrances To A Purposeful Life

‘And he sought God in the days of Zechariah, who had understanding in the visions of God: and as long as he sought the Lord, God made him to prosper. So Jotham became mighty, because he prepared his ways before the Lord his God.’– 2 Chronicles 27:6. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Until thought is right, actions cannot be right.

One major tragedy in life is living without entering into God’s plan for one’s life. It is living with great potentials but ending as a great disaster. That is to say there are people born with great potentials but never reach their destiny; they appear to have been gifted more than others, favoured by God than others, connected to more opportunities than others, yet they end as colossal failures. Esau, for instance, had great opportunity (the birthright) that automatically positioned him to be the inheritor of the covenant blessing of Abraham’s lineage, but ended as a tragedy.
What then are the hindrances to fulfilling God’s purpose? What are the hindrances to a purposeful life?
1. Lack of thought: This was the plague of Esau and Samson. Until thought is right, actions cannot be right, and until action is right, outcome can never be right. What occupies a man’s heart determines where he will ultimately end in life. But there are many people in life who don’t have the time to sit down and think of where they are going or what life is all about. This is an error that hinders the fulfilment of purpose.
2. Lack of a sense of value: Your priorities determine your destiny and what matters to you determines how much you will matter in life.
3. Lack of self-control: Esau could not fulfil his destiny; he sold his birthright because of food. Samson could not fulfil his destiny; the lust of the flesh could not allow him. The fact is, the leadership of the flesh is disastrous for destiny. And anybody who allows his flesh to lead his life is a disaster going somewhere to happen. For instance, man is meant to drive the car and not the car driving him. Therefore, when the flesh begins to direct a man, it is like the car driving the driver. The car in this case may not respond to the driver’s command, but moves only at its own pace. That is a disaster heading somewhere to happen. In the same manner when a person comes to a point where his flesh is in charge of his life, disaster is inevitable.
4. Lack of quality association: This is a connection with people going nowhere or people who have no reason for living. The quality of your association is what determines the quality of your decision. The kind of influence you have around you determines the choices you make in life, and the choices you make determine where you end in life. Receive the grace to overcome these hindrances in Jesus’ Name.

ASSIGNMENT (S): 1. Identify the hindrances to purposeful living in your life. 2. Deal with them accordingly by the help of the Holy Spirit.
PRAYER: Remove, O Lord, every hindrance from my life, so that I can live purposefully, in Jesus’ Name.
