to this end that men ought always to pray and not to faint. – Luke 18:1. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Prayerlessness is the
reason for powerlessness. Prayer is an act of communicating with God.
It is a process of communion, exchange, interaction and fellowship with God.
Prayer also refers to petition with God.
Prayer is very crucial in the journey of life. It is, therefore very important
for us to know its necessity in order to maximize its benefits. This is because
knowing the necessity of something positions us to put forth the relevant
action towards maximizing it. So, until we know why it is necessary to pray,
prayer remains a burden and a distraction. But when you know why you must pray,
prayer becomes a pleasure.
This is the reason why there are people who
only pray religiously, at best and others who pray with significant result.
Those who pray with result pray intelligently with strategic understanding and
those who pray religiously pray ignorantly. Understanding God and the subject
of prayer, therefore, delivers outstanding results.
So, what is the necessity of prayer? What
does prayer have to offer?
1. Character transformation: Prayer does not only change things, it changes people, especially
their character. The process of prayer is a character-refining process. If you
look at the life of Jesus in Luke 9:29, the Bible says, ‘And
as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was
white and glistering.’
2. Prayer gives access to Divine Presence: Prayerlessness is a reason for spiritual dryness. When you go close
to people who really pray, you will feel God. And when such people go close to
mountains, the mountains dissolve because of the Presence of God that they
carry.
3. Spiritual power and authority: Prayerful people like Elijah, Daniel and our Master Jesus were
authoritative people. You can’t be strong in prayer and be weak in life. You
can’t be strong in prayer and be weak in destiny. So, prayerlessness is the
reason for powerlessness.
4. Spiritual sensitivity: Prayerful people have a very high ‘spiritometer’ that detects
spiritual signals. They are highly spiritually sensitive.
5. Supernatural supply: With everything being equal, and when the covenant practice of
giving and tithing is constant, a life of prayer will give you results that
will amaze your world. But if a person is not a covenant practitioner, no
length of fasting can change his fortune.

I thank You for the privilege of relationship. Help me to make the most out of
my prayers, in Jesus’ Name.
