The Fertilizing Power Of Thanksgiving

Be careful for nothing; but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made known unto God – Philippians 4:6. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Our prayers should be irrigated and fertilized with thanksgiving so it can be productive.

From our anchor Scripture, we see that God does not expect to hear only our supplications without our appreciations. That is to say, He doesn’t expect to hear only our prayers without our thanksgiving for what He has already done. Supplication is not complete without appreciation. A thankless prayer, therefore, is a useless prayer; it is like a meatless bone. Our prayers should be irrigated and fertilized with thanksgiving so it can be productive. What fertilizer does to a farmland is what thanksgiving does to prayer. That was why Psalms 67:5-6 says, ‘Let the people praise thee oh God: let all the people praise thee. Then shall the earth yield her increase…’ So, thanksgiving and praise are fertilizers. If you see somebody who knows how to thank God and compare him with another person who doesn’t know how to thank God, their results will be totally different. What then is the focus of thanksgiving?

Thanksgiving focuses on the following:
Thanksgiving focuses on Who God is rather than what He can do: Thanksgiving focuses on the personality of God (Psalm 136:1-2), not what He can do. ‘O give thanks unto the Lord, for he is good: for his mercy endureth forever( Psalm 107:1). It doesn’t matter what the devil has done, our God is good. And it is the goodness of God that has kept us alive today. Our Rescue from Destruction: Another focus of thanksgiving is our rescue from every destruction and calamity organized for us by the enemy. Beloved, whether you are aware or not, God is always rescuing you from destruction. ‘Bless the Lord oh my soul and forget not all his benefits  who redeemeth thy life from destruction’ (Psalm 103:2; 4). Many people today would have been forgotten long before this time if demonic arrows fired against them had succeeded. So, we thank God for making the devil not to succeed. From today, God will clothe you with the garment of praise in the Name of Jesus.

ASSIGNMENT(S): 1. Simply take out time to appraise the wonders of God in your life and give thanks. 2. Don’t only ask God to settle your needs also thank Him for past miracles.
PRAYER: Father, help me to thank You not just for my needs but for who You are, in Jesus’ Name.
