THE DAY: Yesterday’s prayer may not handle today’s challenges.
Arrival mentality is where someone is over-satisfied with their current
level of achievement or over-relying on their past effort, success and results
while overlooking the need for more effort, success and results. It is a state
of premature contentment. For instance, if someone has prayed and fasted in the
past and concluded or assumed that such prayer or fasting was enough to sustain
them in the future, that is an arrival mentality. It is an error. That kind of
mentality is a destroyer of spirituality. Beloved, in order to build a strong
spirituality, every kind of arrival mentality must be destroyed from your life.
This is achieved by a conscious and consistent process of mental renovation.
The renovation of mentality, therefore, is key to dealing with the tragedy of
arrival mentality.
The following are the things we need to know in order to avoid arrival
mentality:
a)
Yesterday’s prayer may not handle today’s challenges. This
is because each day comes with its own challenges. According to our anchor
Scripture, each day has enough load of its own trouble to be tackled.
Yesterday’s prayer may not handle today’s challenges just like yesterday’s food
cannot handle today’s hunger. It does not matter what and how much you ate
yesterday, it cannot handle today’s hunger. So, the fact that you prayed well
yesterday does not make prayer irrelevant today. Beloved, you need to pray
today. You need to pray every day.
b) God
expects daily fellowship with His people. In Genesis
19:27, we see how Abraham got up early in the morning to the place where he
stood before the Lord. That means there was a place and a time Abraham met with
God and he was consistent about it. Beloved, it appears God has a daily
schedule with man (Job 7: 17-18). It is one thing for God to visit,
but it is another thing for you to be aware of His visit. So, the reason why
the prayer of yesterday is not sufficient for today is that there is a schedule
for our daily appointment with God, and that schedule must be kept daily.
Therefore, beloved, never rely on your spiritual success of yesteryears.
Endeavour to remain current spiritually. Remain spiritually vibrant! Remain on
fire!
ASSIGNMENT
