Prayer And Character Transformation

And as he prayed, the fashion of his countenance was altered, and his raiment was white and glistering.– Luke 9:29. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The place of prayer is a place of character transformation.

Character is the set of qualities that make somebody distinctive. It is vital to the fulfilment of destiny. That is why it is very necessary for one to subject their character to a consistent process of improvement and transformation. A character that is positively transformed after the image of God is impeccable and, therefore, very appealing. To exist with a transformed character, therefore, is to exist with a conscience that is void of offence towards God and man. A major way through which character can be transformed is prayer. There is a connection between prayer and character transformation. Prayer transforms a person’s character.
Just as in our anchor text, Luke 9:29 above, where the fashion of our Lord’s countenance was altered (transformed), prayer has the capacity to improve and transform our character. A place of prayer, therefore, is a place of character transformation. As we approach God and associate with Him in prayer, we are changed into His nature. And as we behold Him, we are transformed into His likeness. It is just like the way you acquire a person’s character after getting close to and associating with them for a while.
For instance, friends usually begin to talk, joke or behave alike after some time. Couples also tend to look alike somehow after some years of being together. This is what happens to our character when we encounter the presence of God at the place of prayer. 2 Corinthians 3:18 says, ‘But we all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord.’ Our character, therefore, undergoes transformation at the place of prayer; as we get close to God and fellowship with Him, we are changed into His image (Psalm 17:15).
That is why it has been confirmed that prayerlessness equals “characterlessness.” In essence, a prayer-less person will also be a characterless person. But a person of prayer will be a person of character.
Beloved, you see, prayer transforms character, and character is vital to destiny fulfilment, therefore, endeavour to rekindle the fire of your prayer altar consistently. Be prayerful!
