Why You Must Avoid Comparison

For we dare not make ourselves of the number, or compare ourselves with some that commend themselves: but they measuring themselves by themselves, and comparing themselves among themselves, are not wise.’  2 Corinthians 10:12-13

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Comparing yourself with others can stop you from seeing the goodness of God in your life. Continue...

One of the causes of depression is comparing oneself with other people. Please, don’t compare yourself with anybody, compare only where you are now with where you used to be. Now, some of the reasons why you should not compare yourself with others include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Comparison wrongly accuses God of injustice. When you compare yourself with people, you are accusing God. It is like saying, ‘God, You are partial; see what You have done for that person and see where I am.’ When you compare yourself with people, you accuse God of injustice and unfairness. This affects your relationship with God. And when your relationship with God is affected, your future is affected.
  2. Comparison invites bitterness and envy. You are deprived of love; and anywhere there is bitterness and envy, Satan is at work. James 3:16 says, ‘For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work.’ Everywhere there is envy, strife and bitterness, there is a tendency for every evil work. So when you compare yourself with others, you invite bitterness, envy and satanic activity into your life.
  3. Comparing yourself with others can stop you from seeing the goodness of God in your life. When you begin to compare yourself with other people, you can’t see what God has done in your own life; that will bring ingratitude and because of ingratitude, you will never see any goodness from God. Lack of appreciation makes one unable to see the mercies of God. But that shall not be your portion, in Jesus’ Name!

Remember this: comparing yourself with others can stop you from seeing the goodness of God in your life.

ASSIGNMENT (S)
  1. Learn to be content with where you are until God moves you to the next level.
  2. Study Proverbs 4:18 and allow it to sink into your spirit.

PRAYER: Lord, I know that You are taking me up. I refuse to compare myself with another person because I am wonderfully made, in Jesus’ Name.
