What then is character? The book of Dan. 6:4 says, ‘Then the presidents
and princes sought to find occasion against Daniel concerning the kingdom; but
they could find none occasion nor fault; forasmuch as he was faithful, neither
was there any error or fault found in him.’
Character is existing in the realm of consistent positive action or
behaviour. You are a person of character if you consistently act positively or
correctly. The word ‘faithful’, as we can see in the life of Daniel, means
consistent positive actions. Character means existence in the realm of positive
lifestyle, the consistency of correct behaviour. It is a realm of reliability,
dependability and ‘trustability.’ This means that if a person of integrity does
not lie, then you expect him not to lie consistently; if he does not steal,
then you expect him not to steal consistently.
I would like you to understand that even bad people do good things
occasionally. So, what you do occasionally does not define your character but
what you do consistently. What is the consistent nature of your life? When a
person of character puts forth a negative action, it is an exception. For instance,
when people hear that a person of character tells a lie, they would say,
‘Something must have gone wrong somewhere; it is quite unlike him.’ That is
character. If you are on the journey of character, know that it is a journey of
consistency.
ASSIGNMENT (S):
1. Examine your life and work on any form of character deficiency.
2. Pray and take appropriate steps to amend your character.
PRAYER: O Lord, give me the grace to amend any character deficiency in my
life in order to see Your glory, in Jesus’ Name.
QUOTE: If you are going to reign in this life as a king, one of the major
ways you will do that is by the power of character and integrity. Culled from
WHO ARE YOU? by Dr Paul Enenche.
