Facts From The Life Of Jabez

And Jabez was more honourable than his brethren: and his mother called his name Jabez, saying, Because I bare him with sorrow. And Jabez called on the God of Israel, saying, Oh that thou wouldest bless me indeed, and enlarge my coast… And God granted him that which he requested. 1 Chronicles 4:9-10.

THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: What is meant to work for you naturally cannot work out until you work it.

The Scripture says that Jabez was born in sorrow. But when he discovered that things were not working, he went to the God of Israel and made demands, then God changed his life. Jabez was of the tribe of Judah, although his father’s name was not mentioned specifically. The tribe of Judah was the tribe of royalty, leadership, kingship and authority, yet inside this tribe was a man who was dying as a nonentity until God changed his story. As I observed that, I realised that Jabez did not wait for greatness to happen to him just because he was from a royal tribe; he had to do something. That is why it is very important to understand that responsibility is key to royalty and authority. For anybody to rise in authority, they must accept responsibility. And in order for anybody’s leadership potential to emerge, they must do something about it. That your father is a rich man does not automatically make you a rich man. You have to take responsibility for your life because there are children of many wealthy people who are wasting away or dying as paupers as a result of irresponsibility. In the same manner, no child of a professor was born with a degree certificate. No tailor’s child was ever born with clothes on. No millionaire’s son was born with money; he has to make effort to make money.

Beloved, your privileges or opportunities do not translate into power or possession without your responsibility. What is meant to work for you naturally cannot work out until you work it. Even if there is greatness in you, until it is worked out, you cannot be great. And if there is power or anointing in you, until it is worked out, it won’t work for you. Endeavour to take responsibility for your life today in order to become all that God created you to be.

ASSIGNMENT(S):
1. Work on the gifts that God has given you in order to be great.
2. Make demands on the promises of God in the Bible for your life.

PRAYER: Lord, give me the grace and strength to accept responsibility for my life and destiny, in Jesus’ Name.
