M6 closed as 12 found in refrigerated lorry

Twelve people have been found in the back of a refrigerated lorry on the M6 in Staffordshire.

It was travelling northbound when a person in the back of the lorry called police at about 09:00 BST, requesting urgent assistance, officers said.

The motorway was closed and the lorry was stopped between the Hilton Park services and Junction 10a.

They have received treatment, but no arrests have been made, police said. Border control staff are investigating.

The 12 were assessed at the nearby Hilton Park services but did not require hospital care, West Midlands Ambulance Service said.

The origins of the vehicle and those travelling in it are currently unclear.
