Teach me good judgment and
knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments (Psalm 119:66).
There’re things people do that put
them in bondage, and destroy the works of their hands, unbeknownst to them. In
Matthew 22:29, Jesus said “...Ye do err, not knowing the scriptures, nor the
power of God.” One of such errors you must avoid is treating Church services
lightly. You must make it a priority to attend church services and meetings
consistently, and make it a habit to be punctual. Abhor lateness. Just as you’d
strive and make all the efforts to be at work early, and be on time for your
regular appointments, be even more committed to be early to church.
The different activities that make
up the church service were designed for your spiritual growth, comfort, and
edification. By being present, you make the corporate ministry of the Word and
the ministry of the Holy Spirit available to yourself. In church, the Holy Spirit
brings you knowledge, understanding, and sound judgment.
If for any reason you’re not going
to be able to make it for a service in your local church, find out about the
possibility of online attendance, so you can participate from wherever you are.
The Church is the ground and pillar of truth; it’s the place where you’re
taught God’s Word and thoroughly equipped to live the authentic Christian life,
and carry out your evangelical work effectively. It’s the place where you’re
taught how to use the Word, live in the Word, live by the Word, and live
through the Word.
The Psalmist said in Psalm 119:66,
“Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.”
In other words, “Teach me how to say what I should say, when to say it, and to
say it rightly.” This can only come as you yield yourself to the ministry of
the Word and the Holy Spirit, and being in church gives you such an
opportunity. Through the ministry of the Word and the Spirit in the church, you
receive divine counsel and sound doctrine that help you live victoriously.
PRAYER: Dear Father, thank you for
teaching me sound judgment through your Word. I’m delighted to belong in a
local assembly, where I’m taught the Word, equipped, trained, nurtured, built
and edified for victorious living, in Jesus’ Name. Amen.
Further Study: Ephesians 4:11-13; Now
these are the gifts Christ gave to the church: the apostles, the prophets, the
evangelists, and the pastors and teachers. 12 Their
responsibility is to equip God’s people to do his work and build up the church,
the body of Christ. 13 This will continue until we
all come to such unity in our faith and knowledge of God’s Son that we will be
mature in the Lord, measuring up to the full and complete standard of Christ.

Matthew 16:18; Now I say to you
that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build
my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.
