CAN decries Fulani herdsmen killings in Kaduna

The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) has revealed that about 102 Christians have been killed and over 50,000 houses burnt by rampaging Fulani herdsmen in 25 communities in Kaduna state.

According to CAN, 215 others were injured when herdsmen attacked 25 villages in Godogolo and Ninte areas in the state from May 26, The Authority reports.
The disclosure was made by the secretary of CAN in Godogolo zone, Reverend Chawaison Nathan, who addressed journalists alongside the association’s national president, Dr Samson Supo Ayokunle on Wednesday, November 23 in Abuja.
Nathan also alleged that the three Christian villages are still under the control of the Fulani herdsmen who go about with sophisticated weapons unstopped by security agents.
He disputed the claims by the Kaduna state government that the communities were safe, insisting that the herdsmen were still waging war against the people and they have not been apprehended.
His words: “Twenty one villages are without security, 20 churches cannot hold services. The governor visited only one village once and the impact of that visit is not felt till today.
“There is religious sentiment among the security agencies. Unknown gunmen attacks are not true as we know the Fulani herdsmen that attacked us in broad day light.”
The Christian body called on both the federal and Kaduna state governments to address the issue, adding that both governments have been lackadaisical in their approach.

Last week, suspected Fulani herdsmen sacked four villages in Chawai Chiefdom of Kamaru Ward in Kauru local government in Kaduna state, killing at least 31 people.
