The Archbishop of the Anglican Communion, Enugu Province ,
His Grace, Most Rev Dr Emmanuel Chukwuma, has advised President Muhammadu
Buhari on his style of governance. The Anglican Bishop said if things don’t
change, the nation’s democracy could die early.
President Muhammadu Buhari Chukwuma noted that the conflict between the
Presidency and the National Assembly was overheating the polity. The Man of God
expressed worries that Buhari’s administration did not take any decisive step
to address the threat posed by the marauding herdsmen in different sections of Nigeria .
Chukwuma observed that the current state of affairs in the polity did not
augur well for democracy in the country. The Archbishop said: “Mr President
should know that he is the President of Nigeria, he should know that he is a
civilian democrat, not a military democrat. “He is operating a military
democracy, and he is also exhibiting Islamic political militancy, that is what
he is exhibiting. This will not augur well for this democracy, it may affect
the democracy and it will crash. He should understand that this is not the way
to get Nigeria
united in a democracy.”
The danger facing the administration of President is enormous. Apart from
the future of democracy being at stake, Consumer Price Index (CPI) stated that
inflation rate in Nigeria’s economy has hit the roof at of 16.5%. This is the
highest figure ever since 2005.
