David Cameron's EU negotiations have been dismissed as 'inconsequential'
by a former chancellor.
Lord Lawson, who is president of Conservatives For Britain, also poured
scorn on a claim by a new grouping of pro-Europe Tories that a vote to leave
the EU would be a 'jump into a void'.
His comments came after the launch of the Conservatives For Europe group - headed by ex-minister Nick Herbert. Writing in The Sunday Telegraph, Mr Herbert said: 'Leaving without the first idea of what we might get instead would be to jump into a void.'
Responding on Sky News' Murnaghan programme, Lord Lawson said: 'It is not
a void. It is a place called the world, and we know the world quite well. It is
not outer space.'
He added of Mr Cameron's efforts: 'Even if he gets 100 percent of what he
has asked for, it is inconsequential.'
Mr Cameron has given ministers freedom to campaign on either side - but
only after he has completed his re-negotiation.
