Following the
recent media report that 'rocks' were found inside the engine compartment of Pastor
Ayo Oritsejafor’s aircraft, Move on Nigeria, a Non-Governmental Organization
and Civic Action Group has called on the Federal Government to immediately commence investigation
into the recent attempt on the life of the President of the Christian
Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.
Mr. Aguiyi
said, “It was an ugly development and should be prioritized by the Federal
Government”, warning of dire consequences should anything untoward happen to
the revered man of God. Aguiyi further averred that the incident raises a
question mark over the Federal Government’s ability to protect lives and
properties of Nigerians insisting that the authorities of the Federal Airports
Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) should take responsibility.
Curiously,
neither the Federal Government nor the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria,
in whose custody the aircraft had been, has said anything one way or the other
since the incident occurred.
Recall that
the President of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), Pastor Ayo
Oritsejafor was on board his private aircraft when his pilot detected an
unusual sound from the engine compartment forcing him to make emergency landing
and subjecting the aircraft to checks. Upon checks, the engineers spotted
two huge bricks placed inside the engine compartment by yet to be identified
persons. The incident, observers say, is clearly sabotage. The perpetrators
apparently had planned for Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor’s aircraft to crash midair
while he was on board.
Move on Nigeria , while
expressing shock and anger over what it called the callousness of the human
heart, condemned the incident and urged the Federal government to investigate
the matter in order to bring perpetrators to justice.
“The Federal
Government must show commitment to the provision of adequate security of lives
and property of Nigerians by sincerely and properly scrutinizing the
circumstances leading to the incident with a view to fishing out the culprits”.
This, they said, is the only way to guarantee the safety of lives of users of
Nigerian airports.
