Members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the party in a
meeting today adopted President Jonathan as PDP's
sole candidate for the 2015 elections. The meeting was held at the party's national headquarters in Abuja.
The deputy President of the senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu defended the
position of the BOT saying that internal democracy has not been compromised.
"We are borrowing from other democracy, including the United States of America
where a sitting president who have done so well is expected to be rewarded by
his party wit a ticket. So, we are building a tradition which we hope that
those who will come after us will be able to imbibe. This is also within the
tenet of democracy, not only in Nigeria
but in other parts of the world".
The President, VP Sambo, Senate
President, and many PDP governors were at the meeting.
