Obama: US will root out ‘cancer’ of ISIL

US President Barack Obama denounced ISIL as a “cancer” threatening the entire Middle East region, and vowed to eradicate the terrorist group after it beheaded a US journalist and threatened to kill another American hostage.

A grisly video posted online Tuesday and later confirmed as "authentic" by the White House shows ISIL militants decapitating James Foley in Syria.

“The United States of America will continue to do what we must do to protect our people. We will be vigilant and we will be relentless. When people harm Americans anywhere, we do what’s necessary to see that justice is done and we act against ISIL standing alongside others,” Obama said.

He also sent a direct message to close US allies in the Middle East that have been funding and arming ISIL terrorists operating in Iraq and Syria. Continue...

“From governments and peoples across the Middle East, there has to be a common effort to extract this cancer so it does not spread,” Obama emphasized. “A group like ISIL has no place in the 21st century.”

The US president slammed the terrorist group’s "cowardly acts of violence" in raping and murdering thousands of innocent people.

"ISIL speaks for no religion," he said. "Their victims are overwhelmingly Muslim, and no faith teaches people to massacre innocents. No just god would stand for what they did yesterday and what they do every single day."

Since the video was released online on Tuesday, the US military has conducted about a dozen airstrikes on ISIL targets in Iraq.

Foley was on assignment for AFP and the Boston-based media company Global Post when he disappeared in Syria in 2012.

The ISIL terrorist group, controlling large swaths of Iraq and Syria, has threatened to target Americans in any place if US airstrikes hit them.

The militants have terrorized entire communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and Izadi Kurds while executing a large number of civilians and soldiers.
