Pastor Oluwole Obanure was the assistant General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian church of God (RCCG, Admin/Personnel) and the pastor in charge of West Coast 1 region, with the headquarters in Accra. A statement by the Assistant General Overseer, Admin and Personnel, Pastor Funso Odesola in a statement released to the public stated that  the 65-year-old clergyman died nine months after he was appointed as assistant General Overseer and his family and the entire church are deeply touched by his sudden exit but are comforted by the exemplary Christian life which he had lived and how he served The Lord and Master till the end.

He served the Mission in such various capacities including being the provincial pastor, Northern Province 5 with headquarters in Abuja. Pastor Obanure was involved in a lot of missions and church planting.
Very little is known about pastor Obanure, but those who have met him remark on what a wonderful person that he was. He was able to open the hearts to those that listen to him to the truth using simple everyday analogies, he was always ready to help and not afraid to lend a hand. A book entitled, The Man Oluwole Obanure: The Pastor of Pastors, written by Pastor Dan Ogunwa was to celebrate his life and inspire other people.
“His positive attitude towards the church as the church of God and not his own personal belonging has led to the tremendous growth of the church under his pastoral care. As a good leader, he recognises the potentials of individual and gives room for such to prosper under his supervision. He is not afraid of being overshadowed by the ministration of others. He is a man of God highly anointed, yet he does acknowledge the presence and power of God in the life and ministry of his juniors in the divine service. He is law-abiding, respectful, loyal and obedient to the authorities above him in the Ministry, and he enjoys nothing less from his juniors. No wonder he is the pastor of pastors, overseeing lots of pastors and many parishes that are power-packed and life-giving centres at home in Nigeria and abroad.” (Obisakin C.G. 2002, The Lord God Almighty)
